What, you thought this was the only blog I write for? No, no, not the kid. There is a more grammatically incorrect side of me that just wouldn't hold water in these here austere settings. And I love my hip hop, so I need a separate avenue for my rants concerning that subject. Anyway, peep:

Fountains of Wayne - Traffic and Weather
Look, I know they're a powerpop band, and no one wearing jeans as roomy as mine has any business listening to a powerpop album, much less listing it as one of their favourite albums of the year. I'm special like that, okay? Either leave me be or genuflect before my impeccable dopeness. I've liked FoW since I heard their single 'Red Dragon Tattoo' on the Kingdom Hospital soundtrack (shadaaaap), and I only recently found out frontman Adam Schlesinger wrote the songs for That Thing You Do (shit, he must've made mad bank). Always on the verge of being appallingly cheesy, but always with the good grace to avoid falling into the brink and pulling off some grin-inspiring Americana rock. Listening to this album is like flipping through a photo album of shared memories. I don't have any personal experiences Stateside, so the romanticism works on me I suppose. Road movie music.
Notables: '92 Subaru', 'Seatbacks and Traytables', and 'I-95'
Out of all the music festivals this year, which were the coolest? Did you travel to attend any of them?
Rock The Bells sounded like a great show too. Not only were RATM there, the Wu came back in full force, Nas was riding high, PUBLIC ENEMY, Sage and Atmosphere and Living Legends and Lif. Man. But. BUT
The Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival was free! And it happened right in the shadow of the Brooklyn Bridge. I dunno, that's just romantic as hell for me. I caught some of the live videos on Youtube, and yo. Chubb Rock killed it.
I didn't get to go to any of these festivals, of course. But I am happy to note that I was sent to cover Good Vibrations Singapore. It's an Australian festival that for the first time went out to Asia, and I got to see Jurassic 5 and the Beastie Boys live, in the company of some very good friends. I'm wearing the t-shirt as I write this, so yeah, good timing, Vox. Now stop spying on my ass.
